|We have a pair of new baby peacocks on the way! For those guests who remember our lovely bird, Henry - who we lost this spring (along with our chickens) to a very sly fox - you will be happy to know we will soon have life on the grounds of High Meadows again. The new pair are still quite young, and it will be some time before the male is showing those fabulous colors - but we know that as a pair, the new residents of High Meadows will not be so lonely as Henry was! Pictures of the babies coming soon... thank you Henry for the colorful inspiration you gave us...
High Meadows Vineyard Inn is a delightful country inn located just a few miles outside of Charlottesville, Virginia, home to the University of Virginia, Monticello, and over 30 award-winning wineries. The circa 1832 and 1882 inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a designated Virginia Historic Landmark.
High Meadows has a history as a pioneer in the Virginia wine and restaurant world – the High Meadows Inn restaurant was one of the first recipients of the Virginia Wine Restaurant of the Year award, when the Virginia wine industry was in its infancy, and has partnered with local farmers since opening in 1986. Dining these days is 1/2 mile away in the quaint town of Scottsville, at our partner restaurant The Smokehouse Grille - which leaves the inn as a truly peaceful escape from the real world when you return.
Over the last 180 years since the home was built, some things have changed, of course – the gardens have matured, the rooms have been modernized, and our vinifera grapes are flourishing. Timeless and unchanging, however, remains the beauty of High Meadows that you'll find as you crest the hilltop drive and take in all that is High Meadows Vineyard Inn.
